The DDS range of products have been an evolution of the DSU product developed specifically for NEC NZ. In 2004 NEC NZ wanted to rapidly develop a replacement for the aging Magnetic Tape Units (MTUs), used in Telephone Exchanges for data storage back-up.

We were entrusted with the development of a solution that needed to be both plug and play and use no mechanical parts.

The result was a modern, cost-effective digital storage unit, designed using Snapper, our revolutionary ARM-based System Module with an integrated FPGA. NEC NZ has rolled out 178 units to exchanges throughout New Zealand.
